15 Dec New Mammography Equipment
The province will provide $1.875 million to purchase new mammography systems to support high-quality breast screening across Nova Scotia.
“It is important that people have access to this technology, we know early detection saves lives,” said Halifax Chebucto MLA Joachim Stroink. “I’m happy to see that this new equipment will be available at two locations in Halifax Chebucto.”
The new mammography systems are a part of the provincial breast screening program, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year.
The equipment will be used for breast imaging at a number of sites across Nova Scotia, including two in Halifax Chebucto:
- Halifax Shopping Centre
- IWK Health Centre, Halifax Regional Municipality
The total cost of the mammography systems is $2.5 million. Government will contribute $1.875 million, with another $625,000 coming from community fundraising. The equipment will replace older technology, increasing capacity and reliability.
Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK Health Centre identified these projects as priorities.
The new equipment will be purchased immediately. Installation dates will vary.
